KILKENNY WEATHER: Sunshine in lockdown – temperatures to soar to sizzling 22 degrees this week

Temperatures are set to soar to highs of 22 degrees this week – with Kilkenny and the South East enjoying the best of the sunny weather over the coming days, according to Met Éireann.

The national forecaster said: “The week ahead looks to be warm or even very warm at times for late May. There will be a good deal of dry weather overall with spells of sunshine.

“Some rain or drizzle may occur at times too, with this most likely in northern and western parts of the country.”

Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly echoed Met Eireann’s sizzling forecast, recalling charts that show no rainfall for 10 days in the east and even predicting temperatures could hit highs of up to 25 degrees by Thursday.

He said: “Latest overnight charts show no rainfall for 10 days in the East on ECMWF charts but GFS has some light rain making it across the country Wednesday. High pressure is going to be in control or close by.”

He added it temperatures to reach as high as 25 degrees by Thursday as “much warmer air moves up from the South”.

Met Éireann said temperatures will rise to up to 20 degrees today, with the south and east escaping some patchy rain forecast for the west of the country. Tonight will stay mild and humid, with temperatures remaining at highs of 12 degrees.

The national forecaster said: “Monday will start dry and clear to start with mist and fog patches clearing. Later in the morning, cloud and rain will move into Atlantic coastal counties and will extend eastwards with the rain turning light and patchy.”

Tomorrow will be dry in most areas, cloudy and misty at first with the odd spot of drizzle, but it will brighten up with warm spells of sunshine and highest temperatures ranging between 14 to 21 degrees, with “the best values in inland parts of the southeast”, according to Met Éireann.

Wednesday morning will be dry in the  southern half of the country with maximum temperatures soaring to a sizzling 22 degrees.
