Kilkenny Youth Community Awards fall foul of Covid-19

An annual awards scheme recognising the effort and input of Kilkenny’s youth in improving their community will not go ahead this year due to Covid-19.

The Kilkenny Carlow Garda Youth Awards, which were launched in 2019, have officially been cancelled after discussions among the stakeholders.

In a statement released this morning, a local Garda spokesperson said: “It is with great disappointment that we have taken the decision to cancel this year’s Kilkenny Carlow Garda Youth Awards.

“We were very much looking forward to building on last year’s hugely successful inaugural awards, however due to the Covid-19 crisis we feel this is the best option.

“We would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate a person or a group. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and sponsors – Netwatch, Kilkenny County Council and Carlow County Council.

“We look forward to getting next year’s awards up and running,” the spokesperson concluded.
