L-driver of UK car arrested at Garda checkpoint in Kilkenny was just off ferry and had second set of reg plates hidden in boot

The driver and passenger of a UK-reg car were caught red-handed swapping seats as they pulled up to a Garda checkpoint in Kilkenny yesterday.

And during a search of the vehicle, gardai then discovered a separate set of reg plates for a similar type of car in the boot.

The driver was arrested at the scene for providing a false name to officers and the vehicle was seized.

A local Garda spokesperson said: “The driver was arrested for the provision of a false name and the vehicle seized under Section 41 as the driver was on a UK learner permit.”

Gardai discovered the pair had just come off the ferry from the UK. They claimed they were visiting family in Kilkenny before moving on to Waterford, despite the level 3 restrictions currently in place.
