Last rights: €103,000 State aid for funerals in Kilkenny

IRELAND’S welfare system really does run from the cradle to the grave. Last year the State spent more than €5 million helping families bury their loved ones.

A total of 2,881 payments amounting to €5,457,828 were made to assist funerals and burials nationwide.

There were 59 applicants in Kilkenny. They claimed a total of €103,915.

The Department of Social Protection approved €2,083,127 to help 1,156 mourners in Dublin. The second highest number of bereaved needing assistance was in Cork where 245 people were approved for payments totalling €508,320.
