LATEST: 1,271 new cases of virus confirmed, highest number of monthly deaths since March
A further 1,271 more people have contracted the coronavirus, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.
And the number of patients being treated in hospital for the virus now stands at 297, 59 of whom are in intensive care.
There have been a total of 17 Covid-19 deaths in the week to last Tuesday. It brings the number of deaths in September to 102, the highest monthly number since March.
