LATEST: 20 new cases of virus in Kilkenny as 18 further deaths confirmed
A further 18 people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 269 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.
Of the deaths reported today, the Department of Health said one occurred in October, 15 more in November while two other fatalities are “under investigation”.
The overall death toll as a result of the virus now stands at 2,069. There are now 72,798 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 73 are in Dublin, 20 in Kilkenny, 20 in Limerick, 19 in Louth, 19 in Tipperary with the remaining 118 cases spread across 20 other counties.
