LATEST: 340 new cases of virus confirmed, Cabinet to meet early to decide on indoor dining

A further 340 people have contracted Covid-19.

New figures published by the Department of Health this evening also reveal the number of people in hospital being treated for the virus now stands at 47, an increase of four since yesterday.

The number in ICU has risen two to 15 in that time.

It brings the overall numbers of cases to have been confirmed since the star of the pandemic to 271,260.

The figures come as Taoiseach Micheál Martin earlier confirmed the Cabinet will meet earlier than expected next week to decide on whether or not to proceed with the planned easing of restrictions from July 5, including indoor dining and drinking.
