LATEST: 398 new cases of virus, one million now fully vaccinated

A further 398 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening, up over 120 on yesterday’s figures.

The Department of Health reported 70 people are being treated for the virus in hospitals, six less than yesterday.

A total of 23 people are now being treated in Intensive Care Units, four less than yesterday’s figure.

However, the department warned the number of cases may change due to future data validation amid the disruption caused by the cyber attack on the HSE’s system.

Speaking earlier today,  Taoiseach Michéal Martin confirmed the millionth person would be fully vaccinated by the close of business.

Mr Martin described it as a “significant milestone” for the country.
