LATEST: ‘Dose 1 and Dose 2 vaccine clinics’ to open as 1,818 new cases of virus confirmed
A further 1,818 more people have contracted the coronavirus, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.
However the number of people being treated for the virus in hospital has fallen by five to 244. There are now 52 Covid patients in intensive care, according to the department’s latest daily briefing.
The latest figures were confirmed as the Health Service Executive (HSE) announced it will operate walk-in Dose 1 and Dose 2 vaccine clinics over the coming days.
The clinics will be open to people aged 16 or over who have not received a vaccine yet or are awaiting their second dose.
HSE chief executive Pauli Reid urged people who have not yet received a vaccine to come forward.
He told today’s HSE briefing the uptake of vaccines has been “extraordinary” to date, and that the vaccination programme “gives us a gateway” to reopen society fully.
