LATEST: Kilkenny among 395 new cases of virus, Tánaiste warns ‘too soon’ to book flights home for Christmas
One more person has died after contracting the coronavirus as 395 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.
It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,965. There are now 66,632 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPTHET).
The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 132 are in Dublin, 31 in Cork, 27 in Donegal, 27 in Limerick, 27 in Galway with the remaining 151 cases are spread across 18 other counties, including five more infections in Kilkenny.
The latest cases were confirmed as Tánaiste Leo Varadkar advised people not to book flights home for Christmas yet.
Speaking in the Dáil, Mr Varadkar said it was “too soon” for people to book flights returning to Ireland.
Mr Varadkar said: “I think in terms of people booking flights for Christmas to come home, I’d advise them not to do that at the moment. I know that’s difficult, I know that’s tough, but Christmas is six weeks away and it is too soon now for people to be booking flights to come home.”
