LATEST: No further deaths but 453 new cases of virus, all Kilkenny areas well below national average

There has been no further coronavirus related deaths over the past 24 hours but 453 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

The overall death toll as a result of the virus has now reached 4,906. There has now been 250,290 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

Meanwhile, Kilkenny continues to enjoy one of the lowest rates of the virus in the country.

Latest figures show all local electoral areas – Kilkenny city (44.9 per 100,000 of population), Piltown (46.9), Thomastown-Callan (31.5) and Castlecomer (31.5) – are all significantly under the national average of cases, which currently stands at 122.5 per 100,000 of the population.
