‘Don’t be left stranded’ – Kilkenny Mayor warns of serious passport delays

KILKENNY travellers and holidaymakers who are planning a trip abroad have been urged to check their passports are in date as there is a severe backlog delaying applications.

And the Mayor of Kilkenny, Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, has urged anyone who finds themselves in difficulty to contact him directly.

Cllr Cleere said:  “There are still serious delays for passport applications at the moment. There’s a backlog of over 60,000. This includes delays in passport express.

“If you are planning a holiday this summer or later this year, please check your passport. If you have any questions, or need any assistance, please contact me at any time.”

Cllr Cleere (pictured below) said the quickest way to renew your passport is to do so online, by logging on to: www.passportonline.dfa.ie.

He added: “If travelling within the EU, your passport must be still valid on your return date but for many countries outside the EU up to 6 months must remain on your passport on entry.”
