LATEST: Three more deaths and Kilkenny among 253 new cases of virus, Dublin goes into lockdown from midnight
A further three people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 253 new cases of the virus were confirmed this evening.
It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to1,792. There are now 32,271 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country.
Kilkenny is among the counties to record new infections, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The breakdown of the latest cases are as follows: 116 in Dublin, 22 in Kildare, 14 in Cork, 14 in Galway, 13 in Donegal, 10 in Limerick, 10 in Louth, 9 in Mayo, 8 in Waterford, 7 in Wicklow with the remaining 30 cases are located in Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Tipperary, Westmeath.
The latest cases were confirmed as the Cabinet confirmed it has agrees to implement NPHET’s recommendations to tighten the restrictions on Dublin to Level 3 and to ban indoor dining in the capital.
The restrictions will be in place from midnight tonight for the next three weeks.
There is expected to be an exception for weddings this weekend.
