LATEST: Three more deaths and six more cases, row over foreign travel as Ryanair resumes passenger flights

Three more people have died after contracting the coronavirus as six new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,738. There are now 25,477 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

Meanwhile, despite appeals from the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, for people not to undertake non-essential foreign travel, more people travelled today than in previous months after restrictions on flights were eased and airlines began to offer more services.

Ryanair had organised around 1,000 flights, according to reports this evening.

Dublin Airport confirmed there was a rise in passenger numbers today.

“There has been an increase in flights today. Ryanair have significantly increased their number of flights and we have seen an increase in passenger numbers on that basis, but the numbers traveling are still very very low,” said a spokesperson for Dublin Airport Authority.
