LATEST: Three new deaths and 84 more cases of virus as 2,018 outbreaks recorded in private houses

There has been three further coronavirus related deaths and 84 more cases of Covid-19, the HSE confirmed this evening.

The overall detah toll as a result of the virus remains at 1,781 while ther are now 30,164 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country.

Kilkenny is not among the counties where new infections were recorded, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

Of the cases notified today:

  • 32 are men / 52 are women
  • 66% are under 45 years of age
  • 30% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
  • 8 cases have been identified as community transmission
  • 51 in Dublin, 6 in Offaly, 5 in Kildare and the remaining 22 cases are located in Cork, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Meath, Roscommon, Tipperary, Westmeath and Wicklow.

Meanwhile, separate figures published today reveal there has been 2,018 outbreaks of Covid-19 in private houses, with 122 new outbreaks reported in one week.

The total number of outbreaks reported is 2,878, according to the latest data is from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, up to midnight last Saturday.

It shows there were five outbreaks reported in pubs and five in a restaurant or cafe. Just two outbreaks were linked to hotels.

One outbreak was reported in a childcare facility and the total number of workplace outbreaks is 85.

Workplace outbreaks have involved a variety of facilities, including food wholesalers/distribution centres, pizza delivery premises, factories, primary care centres and garda stations.

Of the 85 workplace outbreaks, 31 were in meat/poultry processing plants, five were in mushroom farms/facilities, while seven have been linked to a retail outlet.

The 85 workplace outbreaks have led to 1,877 laboratory confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 49 cases required hospitalisation.

There have been 279 outbreaks in nursing homes; 194 in a residential institution and 108 in hospitals.

In relation to vulnerable populations, there have been outbreaks in direct provision centres (292 cases); the Traveller community (101 cases); Roma community (69 cases); prisons (24 cases); homeless/those with addiction issues (20 cases). SIx deaths have been recorded in these vulnerable groups.
