Leaving Cert results come out a day earlier for over 1,000 Kilkenny students

By COLIN BARTLEY

MORE than 1,000 Kilkenny students are set to receive their Leaving Certificate exam results tomorrow morning.

This is a move away from the traditional Wednesday results day and is introduced, by the Department of Education and the CAO, to get college offers out to students before the end of this week.

Under the new fast-tracked process, students who appeal the grades they received will get the results of the re-marked tests three weeks earlier than normal.

Students receiving higher grades on the re-marked exams can accept changes in college offers before the college year starts.

This change was brought about because of a high-court challenge last year, over the timing of the results of re-marked exams.

Results for the 1,061 Kilkenny student who sat their Leaving cert in June, will be available from schools at 9 am tomorrow, or students can access them online from 10 am at http://www.examainations.ie

Drinkaware, the national charity working to prevent and reduce alcohol misuse, is asking parents to sit down and talk with their kids receiving results tomorrow about alcohol, bing-drinking and its effects.

“Ahead of the Leaving Cert results celebrations and college offers,” said Drinkaware CEO Sheena Horgan, “it’s important that parents engage with their young people and advocate for sober curiosity or a more mindful attitude to alcohol.

“We are appealing to parents to discuss post-results plans together with their children and provide them with practical knowledge and advice on how they can celebrate this achievement in a safe environment.”
