Legendary trainer Willie Mullins honoured with Civic Reception in Kilkenny today
LEGENDARY horse trainer Willie Mullins will be honoured with a Civic Reception in Kilkenny this evening.
The event will take place at the County Hall on John Street at 7.30pm.
The Civic Reception comes on the back of an incredibly successful few weeks for the Goresbridge man.
Last month he banished his Grand National hoodoo in spectacular style as Burrows Saint, ridden by Ruby Walsh, led home a one-two-three in the marathon handicap chase at Fairyhouse.
“It was a race I always wanted to win because it was probably the first big race we won at home in Doninga,” he said, referring to his father’s stable in Goresbridge.
“It’s a race that has a bit of resonance in our house.”
And earlier this month Ruby rode the Mullins-trained Kemboy to victory in the Gold Cup at Punchestown before announcing his retirement from racing.
