This little gem of a coffee station also serves an impressive range of teas, lovely snacks and healthy juices that will add a flavour-filled bonus to your visit to the Millennium Forest.

The mixed woodland is the largest of 16 millennium forests, planted across Ireland in the late 1990s. 


Once dominated by non-native conifers, it is now a beautiful blend of  oak, ash, birch, alder, cherry and spindle. It is home to the fox, badger, hare, rabbit, squirrels and many species of birds.

The wood has two looped walks of different lengths, making it perfect for a short stroll or longer exercise.

The Millennium Forest has a picnic area and plenty of seats and rest points where you can enjoy nature – not to mention your coffee or tea from the Lily Mais Coffee Pod.

Its award-winning coffee blend uses Arabica Grade A beans from Brazil and Guatemala with 10% Tanzanian Robusta mix. The result is a luxurious silky crème finish with an Italian bodied taste.


Lily Mais  employ full trained baristas who have a great passion for the coffee they serve. They also have a great passion for the environment so all Lily Mais’ disposable cups are compostable.

Lily Mais has a range of  organic speciality teas in six flavours: Regular, Earl Grey, Berry, Peppermint, Green Tea Sencha and Chai.

O Conaill’s Handmade Milk Chocolate flakes are the preferred source for the mochas and hot chocolates, loved by both children and adults..

Róisín’s Chocolate Brownies are another delight for visitors as are her Lemon Drizzle Cakes. Róisín is a graduate from the Sligo College of Home Economics and you can taste her passion for baking  in every bite.

The Millennium Forest is at Castleinch, just 4.5km from Kilkenny city. Lily Mais Coffee Pod has been serving visitors there since March.

It is open every Saturday and Sunday, and on bank holiday Mondays, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. It will be open this bank holiday Monday and will be serving a new summer menu as part of the June Bank Holiday Special: Lily on Ice, a great range of iced coffees and teas.


For those who want to indulge but without the coffee-hit there’s the new and refreshing Chai Latte: steamed milk infused with tasty spices. A selection of tasty ice cream are, almost literally, the icing on the cake. Earlier this month Lily Mais secured a new line of traditional handmade ice cream, Boulaban Farm, with no fewer than four delicious flavours – vanilla, strawberry, honeycomb chocolate – which will go down a treat with the kids.

Lily Mais Coffee Pod looks as good as its products taste. The converted vintage-style horsebox is powered by a silent, eco-friendly generator, and Lily Mais are currently working on an exciting Green Technology project that will enable the Coffee Pod to supply at least 80% of its daily power requirement from lithium batteries, and just 20% from the generator. Lily Mais proudly said this innovative project will be “the first of its kind in the mobile café movement”.
