Brave volunteers spend night on the street to raise money for Kilkenny homeless
By COLIN BARTLEY
A GROUP of concerned Kilkenny people took to the streets over the weekend in an effort to raise cash for a local homeless charity.
The group took part in the Business Sleep Out Fundraiser in aid of the Good Shepherd Centre.
The sleepout managed to raise over €16,000. The target was €20,000, but people can still make donations and organisers are still hopeful that more donations will be made.
The group spent the night sleeping outdoors at the Peace Park in the city on Friday night.
The event is designed to provide local businesses and business leaders the opportunity to support The Good Shepherd Centre’s effort to alleviate homelessness and address housing shortages in Kilkenny.
The money raised will go to essential services and functions with the Good Shepherd such as refurbishing the communal space in the hostel, buying a new van to assist people and families to move and family support service costs.
