M9 motorway diversions in county Kilkenny to last seven weeks
A busy road that links the M9 motorway into county Kilkenny has been closed for the next seven weeks and diversions are now in place.
The R704 connecting Mullinavat to Thomastown, beginning at junction 11 on the M9, was closed off this week to accommodate the works.
The closure is necessary as the council undertakes sewer installation works adjacent to the R704.
A council spokesperson said: “To facilitate the works it will be necessary to close the R704 road between the M9 Motorway (Jct. 11) and the R448 in Mullinavat village. Works are to commence from Monday, January 4 and will last approximately seven weeks.”
The council has implemented a number of diversions on the M9 Motorway and on national routes within the county to offset the disruption.
The local authority said the M9 Motorway (Junction 10 Knocktopher) will be used for the northern diversion route, while the the M9 at Grannagh will be used for the Southern diversion route.
