Thugs jump out of taxi and viciously assault man walking home in Kilkenny city

A MAN walking home was the victim of a random and vicious assault by a pair of men who jumped out of a taxi.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was walking home on the Old Dublin road just before 1am on Sunday when a taxi came to an abrupt stop next to him.

Two men jumped out of the taxi and attacked him. However the victim managed to defend himself and his attackers fled the scene.

The victim suffered minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment, although he was in a state of shock following the ordeal.

A local Garda source said the victim did not see which way the attackers left the scene. He was unable to give a description of the two men who assaulted him.

Gardaí are asking for anyone who witnessed the assault or any cars or taxi’s that may have dash-cam footage to contact them at Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000
