Man who died in Comeragh Mountains fall worked as psychiatrist in Kilkenny

THE man who died from his injuries following a fall in the Comeragh Mountains yesterday worked as a psychiatrist in St Luke’s General Hospital.

Seamus Sweeney, 40, was a practicing psychiatrist at the Kilkenny hospital. He is originally from Dublin and was living with his wife and family in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

Dr Sweeney was walking with his family close to the top of Mahon Falls yesterday before falling. He sustained fatal injuries during the accident.

He was airlifted off the popular tourist site by the Irish Rescue Services Helicopter R117 and brought to University Hospital Waterford. Despite efforts to save him, Dr Sweeney passed away at the hospital.

A post-mortem is due to take place at UHW today.
