Kilkenny city under siege as Medieval Marathon mauraders take over streets

THE streets of Kilkenny will be invaded today by hundreds of marauders taking part in the Medieval Marathon.

This is the fourth incarnation of the Medieval Marathon. Participants will set off from St Francis Bridge and will cross the finish line set up at the Parade.

The routes will take in some of the most historic sites in the city before winding its way out onto the country roads for those stronger athletes.

As well as the full marathon, the organisers have created a 30k, a half marathon and 10k, so runners of all levels can join in.

The gun will sound to start the race at 12pm, with runners due to complete their races throughout the afternoon.

Kilkenny gardai will be assisting the organisers on the route and temporary traffic restrictions will be in places in parts of the city. The areas affected are:

– Central Access Scheme
– Dean Street
– Kennyswell Road
– Circular Road
– N76 Callan Road
– Butts Green
– Loretto View
– Church Lane
– Common Hall Lane
– Vicar Street
– Greensbridge Street
– John’s Quay
– John Street and John’s Bridge
– Castle Road.
