THE OFFICE of Public Works (OPW) today announced they are looking to install more special needs equipment at the Kilkenny Castle playground before the end of the year.
The news comes on the day the castle’s playground finally re-opened to the public after being closed for almost four months.
The €100,000 refurbishment, which includes a new wheelchair accessible roundabout and a sensory wall specifically designed for children with special needs, officially opened this afternoon.
Announcing the re-opening of the playground, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, Minister of State with special responsibility and the OPW said he is committed to making the playground accessible to even more people.
“The OPW is committed to installing a wheelchair accessible swing to complement the newly installed wheelchair accessible roundabout and we are actively examining the feasibility of this now with a view to installation in late 2019.”
