New boutique hotel for Kilkenny city-centre
Plans to build a new boutique hotel in the centre of Kilkenny city have been given the green light.
Kilkenny County Council has approved an application from developers Kevin Moore Building Ltd seeking permission to create a 23-bedroom hotel in the city-centre.
The hotel will be located between Lower John’s Street and Horse Barrack Lane, within the John Street Architectural Conservation Area, at the location most recently used as Lewis’s shop.
Under the plans, the developer will demolish the existing first and second floors of 19 and 20 John’s Street as well as demolishing extensions to the rear, an outbuilding and old garage. These would be replaced with a new first floor level at 19 and 20 John’s Street and the construction of a new two-storey extension.
A new three-storey hotel pavilion along Horse Barrack Lane with internal courtyards and a rooftop garden can now also be built as a part of the development.
