New Kilkenny GAA partner makes mark on minor championship

Kilkenny GAA’s 10-year partnership with UPMC kicked off in earnest over the weekend with the health carer sponsoring gear bags for all the participants in the minor county A and B hurling finals.

Players from Dicksboro, Mooncoin, Young Irelands and St Martin’s GAA clubs each received new gear bags in their club colours ahead of Sunday’s finals, to celebrate their achievement in making it to the deciders.

As part of the new partnership between the Pittsburgh based medical provider and Kilkenny GAA, the county grounds has been renamed UPMC Nowlan Park.

Chairperson of Kilkenny GAA, Jimmy Walsh, said: “This alliance will help to enhance and develop facilities in Nowlan Park into the future. Thanks to UPMC’s sponsorship, we will be able to invest in the betterment of the association in County Kilkenny, providing a higher class of facilities and maintaining them to a proper standard at the stadium.”

When the dust settled in UPMC Nowlan Park on Sunday, Dicksboro were crowned the Minor A county champions after overcoming Mooncoin on a 0-18 to 0-06 scoreline. Young Irelands beat St Martins in the Minor B county final 3-07 to 2-06.

On Saturday afternoon, Black and White beat Ballyhale Shamrocks in the Minor C county final.
