Not to be sniffed at: Garda dogs finds €17,000 of drugs, tablets and cash in two raids on Kilkenny border

€17,000 worth of drugs and cash has been sniffed out by a Garda dog following a couple of raids on drug dens yesterday evening.

Shortly before 7pm Gardaí from the Detective Branch in Carrick-on-Suir and the Clonmel District Drugs Unit, assisted by the Southern Region Dog Unit, carried out a search of an address at Main Street in Carrick on Suir.

With the aid of a garda sniffer dog, €3,500 in cash and over 3300 suspected alprazolam tablets – a type of sedative similar to Xanex, as well as suspected cannabis herb with a value of approximately €10,000 was seized during the course of the search.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Clonmel Garda Station.

In a follow-up search at around 11pm, the same group of gardai raided a house at Kickham Place, in the village of Mullinahone.

Suspected cannabis herb, amphetamines and cash to the value of €3,500 were seized along with weighing scales and mobile phones.

No arrests were made during this search but gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry.
