On the right track: Works on Kilkenny roads, new cycle lanes and footpaths underway
Important works on local roads, laneways, cycle and footpaths are underway or about to commence.
A comprehensive road works update was provided by Kilkenny County Council engineers at the Callan/Thomastown Municipal meeting yesterday.
At the meeting, councillors were told that the next phase of footpaths at the Woodlawn estate in Bennettsbridge are due to get underway on November 2. Meanwhile, work on new footpaths in the Hillview estate area will commence by the middle of next month.
Work has already begun on the new footpath and cycle track in Bennettsbridge, and on footpaths in Dungarvan.
Meanwhile, drainage works at Kilbline Cross and Ballinaboola Cross are due to commence end of this month/early November.
Problematic drainage issues between Wallslough and Grovine will get underway at three separate locations next week. Drainage works in Highrath, Maddockstown are also due to start next week.
Local councillor Patrick O’Neill welcomed progress made by the council on the works.
Cllr O’Neill (pictured below) told KilkennyNow.ie: “It’s great to see all projects on track to be completed this year despite the Covid issues with huge credit due to the council staff.
“I’d particularly like to welcome works on footpath upgrades in the Woodlawn and Hillview estates in Bennettsbridge, new footpath and cycle track in Bennettsbridge, Drainage works at Kilbline Cross and Ballinaboola Cross and numerous Drainage projects between Wallslough and Grovine.
“These are issues that I have made representations on over the years and great to see them close to completion.”
