Planning authority to rule on new city-centre car park rejected by council

A developer has lodged an appeal after Kilkenny County Council turned down its plans to create a 90 space car-park in the city centre.

The local authority last month refused planning permission for the car park at the Old City Lime Works, which is located at the rear of the World’s End Bar and the former O’Connell’s store on John’s Street.

However, the developer, City Lime Works Limited, has appealed the council’s decision to An Bord Pleanála.

Its plans involve the construction of a private surface level car park with 90 spaces and an upgraded entrance from the street, built adjacent to the current car park behind the Kilford Arms.

An Bord Pleanála is due to rule on the appeal by the beginning of November.
