Planning chiefs delay decision on Kilkenny mosque for second time

PLANNING authorities have delayed the long-awaited decision on the plan to build a mosque in Kilkenny for the second time in consecutive months.

An Bord Pleanála was due to deliver its judgement on the development of the Islamic Cultural Centre at the Hebron Industrial Estate on Monday.

The planning body initially indicated it would give its verdict on the mosque in the first week of March.

An official at the Dublin office of An Bord Pleanála was unable to give an indication of when its decision would be announced when contacted by KilkennyNow.ie. However, a source said the ruling may still be made public this week.

Three separate appeals to the mosque plans were lodged to An Bord Pleanála after Kilkenny County Council granted planning permission to the development last year.
