Plans for new wind farm in county Kilkenny lodged with council

Plans for a new wind farm development have been lodged with Kilkenny County Council.

The planning application lodged by Briskalagh Ltd is seeking permission to construct seven wind turbines in an areas situated around 3.5km south of Tullaroan.

In its application, the company has requested permission “for a period of 10 years for a development at this site”, which is situated in the following townlands: Acragar, Ballyconra, Ballycuddihy, Ballyroe, Ballyroe (Grace), Ballyroe (Maher), Baunaniska, Boherkyle, Briskalagh, Brittas, Clone, Coolnapisha, Curraghduff, Freshford, Freshford Lots, Graigueswood, Grange, Huntstown, Kilmanagh, Knockeenglass, Knockown, Moatpark, Monabrika, Monavadaroe, Moneenaun, Oldtown, Oldtownhill, Parksgrove, Picketstown, Rathealy, Sart, Sweethill, Tobernapeastia, Tullaroan, and Upperwood Demesne.


The development will consist of seven wind turbines with an overall tip height of 185 metres; a rotor blade diameter of 163 metres; and hub height of 103.5 metres.

It would also involve the construction of “a permanent 38kV substation compound (control building with welfare facilities, all associated electrical plant and apparatus, security fencing, underground cabling, storage containers, wastewater holding tank, site drainage and all ancillary work”.

The local authority is due to decide on the application – which was lodged on November 15 – on January 18 next.
