Life after Covid: Popular Kilkenny bar to create safe outdoor seating space

A popular Kilkenny gastropub is hoping to maintain the atmosphere that has made it such a success while creating a safe area for customers when the shadow of the pandemic finally lifts.

O’Sullivan’s Taproom on Kilkenny’s John Street has applied to Kilkenny County Council seeking an extension to the planning permission which allowed it create one of Kilkenny favourite outdoor spaces for socialising, eating and drinking.

The Taproom is seeking a five-year extension to keep their popular beer garden, which was previously converted from a garden centre.

Looking to their business post Covid-19, the owners have sought permission to maintain their 18 pods within the existing seating area so groups can sit together or separately from other customers in a safe social setting.

The ocuncil is expected to decide on the application early next month.
