Storm aftermath: Kilkenny hit by power cuts, fallen trees cause traffic delays

Kilkenny survived the worst of Storm Atiyah, there were still severe disruptions around the city and county that caused power outages and brought down trees.

ESB network engineers were called to fix a power outage in Kilkenny city last night. Over 1,000 homes around MacDonagh Junction in the city were left without power for a number of hours. Power was returned to most houses shortly before 10pm.

Emergency services are still dealing with the fallout and are warning people to be aware of fallen trees and debris around the county. Kilkenny County Council is working to remove a tree from the Kells Road in Kilkenny city, which caused some delays to traffic in the city this morning.

A second tree is down at the turn off to the Camphill Community on the Callan to Knocktopher road and services are currently working to remove it.

Although the weather warning has been lifted, people are still being urged to drive with caution and be aware of debris on the road.
