Properties owned by Kilkenny Council empty despite housing crisis: report

More than 50 properties owned by Kilkenny County Council are lying empty in the midst of an unprecedented housing crisis.

A report in today’s Sunday Independent reveals there are 4,000 local authority-owned houses or apartments across the country that are currently empty.

This national figure includes 58 council properties in Kilkenny city and county.

The report also found councils are spending millions each year to rent around 10,000 homes from landlords, which includes 53 properties in Kilkenny.
