Kilkenny meat plant protestors defy High Court ruling
By COLIN BARTLEY
KILKENNY farmers, unhappy with the outcome of beef crisis talks, have ignored a High Court ruling stopping them blockading meat factories.
Up to 80 farmers contiune protesting outside two plants in Kilkenny this morning, the Dawn Meats facility at Grannagh and the Anglo-Beef Processors (ABP) Food Group plant at Ferrybank.
Yesterday the owners of these two plants were granted a High Court injunctions stopping beef farmers from picketing their factories.
Farmers, this morning, rejected the court ruling claiming it to be a civil injunction and not a criminal one.
A Chinese delegation is set to visit numerous beef manufacturing facilities around the country in the coming days, with a view to increasing exports to the world’s largest market and beef processors were hoping to have the protestors moved away from their facilities by this point.
