REST IN PEACE: Kilkenny Death Notices

Christopher Laurance Phelan, Loon, Castlecomer, Co.Kilkenny, Died 28th January 2021, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Sadly missed by his loving wife Bridget, sons, daughters, 27 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family, relatives and friends.

A private family Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Fintan’s Church Mountrath, today Saturday 30th January 2021, followed by Burial in St. Fintan’s Cemetery Mountrath.

Catherine (Kitty) BEGLEY (née Byrne)
17 Castle Ave, Thomastown, Kilkenny/Bigwood

The death has taken place of Kitty Begley (nee Byrne) of 17 Castle Avenue, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny and formely of Bigwood, Mullinavat, Co, Kilkenny, peacefully, at her residence. 14th January 2021. Kitty will be sadly missed by her husband Bart, daughters Catherine & Yvonne, sons Frank, Colm, Bart & Philip, sons-in-law & daughters-in-law and her 13 grandchildren, also her brother, sisters and extended family and friends of which she had many.

In keeping with Government guidelines regarding social distancing a private family funeral will take place on Monday (1st February) at 11am in the Church of the Assumption, Thomastown followed by burial of Ashes in St Mary’s New cemetery, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. James DERMODY
Mountain Grove, Piltown

James passed away suddenly on Wednesday. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his heartbroken parents Martin and Aileen, sisters Niamh and Siobhan, brother Andrew, granny Joan, his loving partner Lorraine Delahunty, all his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and a wide circle of friends.

In line with current restrictions and to ensure the safety of the Dermody family, the house, church and graveyard are strictly private. For anyone wishing to pay their respects they may do so by lining the roadside on route to the church and graveyard. James’ remains will leave his residence on Sunday at 10.30am passing through Jamestown Cross and Kildalton College arriving at The Church of the Assumption, Piltown for requiem mass at 11.00am. James will then make his final journey passing his residence for burial in Templeorum cemetery.

The death has occurred of Margaret (Gretta) Nevin (nee Drennan), Closutton, Leighlinbridge, Co. Carlow, and formerly of Garryduff, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny. Predeceased by her husband Jackie, daughter Mary, brothers Patty, Denis, James and Michael, sisters Molly, Lilly, Julia and Kate, sadly missed by her loving son John and daughter Kathleen, grandchildren P. J, Christine, Jamie and Mairéad, sons-in-law John and Paul, brothers-in-law Ned and Martin, sisters-in-law Roseleen, Phyllis and Maura, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Due to continued restrictions on public gatherings, Gretta’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the presence of her family (Max 10 people) on Sunday at 11.oc in St. Lazerian’s Church, Leighlinbridge that can be viewed on www.leighlinparish.ie followed by burial in the adjoining Cemetery.

Patrick (Pat) ROCHE 
Clossgregg, Thomastown

The death has taken place of Patrick (Pat) Roche, Clossgregg, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny at his home 27th January 2021. Sadly missed by his sister Maura, brother-in-law Bernard, nieces Christina and Jenni, aunts and uncles, many cousins, Good neighbours and friends.

In keeping with Government guidelines regarding social distancing a private family funeral will take place on Saturday (30th January) at 11am in the Church of the Assumption Thomastown, followed by burial in St Mary’s New cemetery Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. A stop will take place outside Pat’s residence (approx 10.40). Route ( via Dangan/Clossgregg/Kilfane).

John SHORTALL
Harristown, Graiguenamanagh

The death has taken place of JOHN SHORTALL P.C. St. Martin’s, Harristown, Graignamanagh, Co. Kilkenny.
John died, peacefully, in University Hospital, Waterford, on Thursday 28th January 2021.

John will be sadly missed by his loving wife May, daughter Martina, son John, son-in-law Murt, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, his adored and adoring grandchildren James, Amy, Phoebe, Róisín and Kirstyn, his extended family, both here, in the U.K.. and the U.S.A., his neighbours and friends.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the University Hospital Waterford, the Renal Unit Kilkenny, the Health Centre Graignamanagh and Kissane’s Pharmacy Graignamanagh for the wonderful care they have shown John.

Due to current government Covid 19 restrictions, a private burial service and prayers will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Graignamanagh, at 12 o’ clock on Saturday, 30th of January 2021.

John’s funeral cortège will pass through Graignamanagh at 11.40am on Saturday morning and will pause at John’s house for a moment on the way to the cemetery.
