Investigation underway following tragic death of patient at St Luke’s in Kilkenny

A REVIEW by health services is currently underway following the unexpected death of a patient at St Luke’s General Hospital earlier this week.
The death occurred on Monday evening at the Department of Psychiatry (DoP), the acute mental health facility located on the grounds of St Luke’s.
A Health Service Executive (HSE) spokesperson told KilkennyNow.ie: “The HSE/South East Community Healthcare can confirm that an unexpected death of a patient occurred at the Department of Psychiatry (DoP) acute mental health facility (located on the grounds of St. Luke’s General Hospital) in Kilkenny on Monday evening, October 7.
“As with any such unexpected death, South East Community Healthcare is liaising with the patient’s family, has notified the Mental Health Commission and in accordance with HSE protocol is carrying out its own review of the incident.
“South East Community Healthcare extends its deepest sympathy to the patient’s family and continues to offer any support necessary.”
