Right on track: Gowran named best racecourse in Ireland
KILKENNY’S Gowran Park has been named Ireland’s best racecourse.
The picturesque Kilkenny track was named the winner at The Godolphin Stud and Irish Stable Staff Association Awards night, held in Killashee House in Naas, county Kildare last night.
It’s the first time Gowran Park has won the award and is just the fifth course to receive the accolade. The Kilkenny track was selected because of the improvements made to its facilities used by racing industry employees and was highly praised for its catering facilities.
Eddie Scally, Manager of Gowran Park, picked up the €2,500 for winning, as well as a plaque and trophy. The winnings will be used to further upgrade stable staff facilities.
Gowran Park management took to Twitter to announce their win: “Delighted to collect this award on behalf of the team here in Gowran park – stable yard manager Paul, Martin from the track & Foreman Ray. Thanks so much to everyone for a great night last night and thanks to all the team here at Gowran Park for your continued hard work.”
Damien Byrne, Yard Manager and Travelling Head Lad at Joseph O’Brien’s stables in Owning Hill, Piltown, was runner-up in the Leadership Award for stable employees.
The Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of stud and stable staff, acknowledging the huge contribution they make to the Irish racing industry.
