Sadness as legendary Kilkenny man who ran New York’s most famous pub passes
Tributes are being paid to the legendary Kilkenny man who owned the world-famous McSorley’s Old Ale House bar in New York who passed away this weekend.
Matty Maher passed away yesterday morning surrounded by his loving family, his wife Tess and five daughters.
The accordian-playing publican from Threecastles was a hugley popular figure among Kilkenny exiles and was known for his deep love of music and the GAA.
Matty ran McSorley’s in Manhatten (pictured below), one of New York’s most famous bars, for decades and was one of the best-known publicans in the Big Apple.
