Santa Claus is coming to town… to launch Yulefest Kilkenny!

The Man in Red himself is paying a special pre-Christmas visit to Kilkenny to officially launch this year’s Yulefest.

Kilkenny will be transformed into a winter wonderland on Saturday as Santa travels by boat down the River Nore (Rudolph and Co. have been given the weekend off) before taking a trip around the city and finishing up at Kilkenny Castle.

Father Christmas will then get the opportunity to formally meet Mayor Andrew McGuiness and the Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Michael McCarthy.

Talented Castlecomer teenager Enya Cox – who recently represented Ireland at the Junior Eurovision Song will entertain the crowds and the special guest from the North Pole, with thousands expected to gather at The Parade for the switching on of the Christmas tree lights.


The festivities will begin on Canal Square at 2pm, while Santa is scheduled to turn on the lights on The Parade between 4.30pm and 5pm.

The Mobile Sensory Hub will also be present at the Yulefest launch, along with a whole host of festive activities, including the Yulefest Christmas Market, Live Music Stage, Storytime with Mrs Claus and Art Workshops each weekend between now and Christmas.

And next month, Yulefest are bringing live entertainment to the streets of the city for a Battle of the Buskers competition in association with KCLR, an initiative of Kilkenny’s Night Time Economy Scheme,
