Huge dredging operation gets underway near Port of Waterford in South Kilkenny
A massive dredging operation around the Port of Waterford in South Kilkenny got underway today.
The maintenance works will be carried out by the trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Shoalway’ and will last for approximately 24 days, according to Waterford Port.
The works, concentrated around Bellview, Cheekpoint and Duncannon, will involve the removal of mud, weeds and rubbish, which will then be disposed of at an “approved site” south west of Hook Head.
The dredging will be followed by a bed levelling campaign which will be carried out by the vessels ‘Fastnet Sound’ and/or ‘Glenesk’.
