Signed Irish rugby jersey just one of the fabulous auction items on offer at this year’s Valentine’s Dinner

THIS Ireland rugby jersey – signed by every one of coach Joe Schmidt’s squad members during the last Autumn international series – is just one of the fabulous auction items up for grabs at this year’s Valentine’s Dinner.

The charity event, now in its ninth year, will take place at the Ormonde Hotel on February 14, with all funds going towards the Carlow Kilkenny Homecare Team.

Over the past eight years the event has raised a total of €106,000 for three local charities. The funding helped the Wheelchair Association Kilkenny Branch to purchase a wheelchair bus, and the Enable Ireland O’Neill Centre has also benefited from the Valentine’s Dinner fundraising efforts.

Half of the 300 tickets for this year’s event have already been sold, and people have been urged to book as early as possible over the coming weeks to avoid disappointment.

Organiser Mary Harrington told KilkennyNow.ie: “People have been so generous – we’ve had an amazing response again this year. The Valentine’s Dinner has become a real annual event and this year the money we raise will go towards a very worthy cause, as well as being a great night out.”

Mary said those attending this year’s event can look forward to a wide range of fantastic spot prizes, including vouchers from Marble City Fuels and Waterford Health Park Pharmacy.

Special auction items on the night will include two paintings by renowned Kilkenny artists Frances Walsh and Marley Irish, a 50″ Samsung television, champagne, a massage treatment from the Newpark Hotel, three months’ membership of the Ormonde Leisure Centre and a two-night mid-week break at the Absolute Hotel in Limerick.

The main sponsors of this year’s event are UPMC Whitfield and Sheridan’s Stained Glass in Stoneyford.

Every lady diner will get a special flower on the night, kindly donated by Flowers by Lucy. There are also further goodies from the UPMC, McDonalds, Specsavers and K-Bowl for everyone attending.

Mary has appealed to any other business or companies out there who may be in a position to donate auction items to get in touch.

*Anyone who would like to donate an auction item or buy a ticket to this year’s Valentine’s Dinner can contact Mary directly on 087 212 8664 or the Ormonde Hotel on 056 775 0200. Also keep an eye on @kkvaldinner for regular updates on Twitter and Facebook.
