Heroin seized in raid on drug den in county Kilkenny town
GARDAI seized €7,000 worth of heroin during a planned raid on a house in Castlecomer.
Members of the Kilkenny-Carlow Divisional Drugs Unit swooped on the house in the Church Avenue area of the north Kilkenny town just after 5pm last Friday.
Gardai confirmed a quantity of heroin with a street value of just under €7,000 was seized along with drug “paraphernalia”, including a weighing scales, plastic wrapping bags and tin foil.
A 34-year-old male was arrested in connection with the seizure. He was taken to Kilkenny Garda Station for questioning but was later released without charge.
A 27-year-old female was also questioned in relation to the seizure.
A file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
A local Garda source described the amount of heroin seized as “sizeable”.
They told KilkennyNow.ie: “Heroin of this quantity is sizeable for Kilkenny. Heroin is a drug that doesn’t stay in the sale process for long – it’s ordered, collected and taken.”
