Spring appears to have sprung as mercury revs up to 13C in Kilkenny today: Met Éireann

AFTER weeks of freezing nights and chilly days, it’s finally starting to warm up.

And temperatures will reach a positively balmy high of 13 degrees in parts of Kilkenny and throughout Leinster today.

Met Éireann said today will be largely dry, but with cloudy skies and only occasional sunny interludes.

“Feeling mild despite a strong southerly breeze with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees,” it said.

Tonight will remain dry with just a few mist or drizzle patches, mainly in hilly areas.

And tomorrow is set to get even hotter, with very mild conditions and maximum temperatures of up to 14 degrees in parts of Kilkenny and Leinster.

However forecasters said the weather will take a turn for the worse again on Friday, when a progressing cold front will bring freshening winds for a time, while thickening cloud will bring rain.

Met Éireann said: “The winds will veer westerly and ease with the clearing rain. Temperatures will be 11C to 13C in the day but on Friday night there’ll be a frost likely as skies clear.

“The further outlook in to next weekend sees a return of the southerly winds but temperatures will fall back a degree or two to closer to normal for the time of year. There’ll be some rain at times but a good deal of dry weather.”
