‘Stay connected’ – Kilkenny’s libraries unveil free new ‘Dial-A-Story’ service

Kilkenny’s Library Service has launched a new initiative to help people “stay connected” and entertained in the countdown to Christmas and throughout the festive season.

The new ‘Dial-A-Story’ free service was launched this week as part of the national “Keep Well” Community Resilience Campaign.

Under the initiative, anyone call phone in to listen to up to 10 new stories just by calling the free phone number 1800 300309, and then press a number between 0 and 9.

Senior Executive Librarian Dorothy O’Reilly said: “This Dial-A-Story service will help people stay connected. They can ring in for free, if they are bored or lonely and have a story read for them by library staff. The stories are by local authors including some from Loughboy Writers’ Group and Thomastown Writers’ Group, who met in their local library. The stories have an eclectic mix of themes, so there is something for everyone to enjoy “Ms O’Reilly added.

The service is free and not restricted to library members. However if you would like to join the library to access more great services, you can, join online at  https://lgma.iii.com/selfreg or at a branch.
