Two arrested after gardai seized cannabis and cocaine from car in Kilkenny city

A YOUNG man and woman were arrested after gardai searched a car in Kilkenny city-centre that had a “strong smell of cannabis” coming from it.

The vehicle was searched on after gardai noticed a group of youths acting suspiciously around the car on William Street just after midnight on Saturday.

Officers found a rucksack in the boot of the car containing €600 worth of cannabis. They also seized €50 of cocaine during the search.

Local gardai confirmed a 20-year-old man and 19-year-old girl were arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station for questioning.

They were subsequently released without charge. A file on the matter is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
