Two centuries-old Kilkenny castle on the market for €3.7m

A historic Kilkenny mansion is now on the market for €3.7m.

Gowran Castle, located just off the main street in Gowran, is a residential and equestrian estate extending to about 67.8 acres.

An imposing period residence, at its heart lies a modernised country house dating back to around 1818.

Inside the residence, there are three principal reception rooms and five bedrooms, along with a billiards room/bar, office, cellar and gym. There is even a private tennis court located next to the home.

In addition to the main house, there is a traditionally constructed one-bedroom gate lodge and a three-bedroom apartment perfect for either guests or staff.

The mature grounds encompassing the house boast excellent equestrian facilities with the land divided into a number of paddocks enclosed by stud railing.

On the estate sits an American barn with ten loose boxes, alongside a sand arena, lunging ring, veterinary practice, six-horse walker, ancillary stores and turnout paddocks.

The village of Gowran is just a short walk away, while the Castle overlooks the Gowran Park Golf Course and horse racing track.

The property is close to the M9 connecting Kilkenny to Dublin, while a local bus service running twice daily links Gowran village with Kilkenny city. There are also regular bus services from Gowran to Dublin Airport.

The property has been put on the market for €3,750,000 by Savills Residential and Country Agency.
