Vandals wreck life-saving info points on banks of the Nore in Kilkenny city

An investigation has been launched by Kilkenny gardai after life-saving information points on the River Nore were vandalised over the weekend.

Thugs targeted two lifeguard poles, used for displaying information regarding water safety and lifeguard on-duty times along the Linear Park at Riverside.

Both of the poles were ripped out of the ground, with one thrown into the river.

A Garda spokesperson said: “These signs are information signage outlining the times when lifeguards are on duty and should not be interfered with.

“With the current good weather, people should be careful when swimming in local rivers and where possible swim in areas where there are lifeguards on duty,” the spokesperson added.

Anyone with information or who may have seen anyone tampering with the poles is asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
