Warning as hunt underway for knife-wielding thief who hijacked car and robbed post office
Gardai are urging Kilkenny people not to approach a man who is suspected of hijacking a car at knife point and robbing a post office.
The man is still on the run in the hijacked car and gardai are telling people: “Do not approach the car.”
The incidents happened in neighbouring county Tipperary earlier this afternoon. Shortly after 3.10pm gardaí received a report of an incident in Clonoulty where a man, armed with what is believed to be a knife, approached a red Volkswagen Passat being driven by a woman.
The man then and threatened her and demanded she get out of the car. The terrified woman got out of the car, the man jumped in and sped off.
Around 2o minutes later at 3.30pm, a robbery occurred at the post office in Rossmore. A man entered the post office, threatened staff with a knife and left the scene with a small sum of money.
Gardaí believe that the car used during the incident was the red Volkswagen Passat that had been stolen earlier. No one was injured during either incident.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen this red Volkswagen Passat, partial registration 11-D, to contact Gardaí immediately but are warning the public not to approach the car.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
