WATCH: State funeral of Detective Garda Colm Horkan to be broadcast live

The State funeral of Detective Garda Colm Horkan takes place at 12 noon today.

All members of the public are invited to view the service – it will be live-streamed online at http://seeitonline.ie and on RTÉ News Now.

The funeral will take place in Charlestown, Co Mayo after the 49-year-old died following a shooting in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, on Wednesday.

Det Garda Horkan’s remains will be brought to St James’s Church for requiem mass at 12pm with Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan among the mourners, while President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will join gardaí around the country in observing a minute’s silence.

The public are asked to pay a silent tribute in their homes at noon while flags on Government and State buildings will be lowered to half mast.
